Hey Ya’ll!
Whew, I finally got this blog off the ground and I am so excited! I have had a vision for M&M for some time but between four kids, a pandemic, and a very demanding job, I just couldn’t find the time, energy, or words. But thanks to the WordPress support team who not only helped me with the site, they gave me the encouragement I needed to keep moving forward. It’s ironic that an absolute stranger encouraged me in something that I wanted to pursue and that is exactly what I hope my blog is for you…inspiring, informative, and encouraging.
Milk and Mahogany is a positive place for folks to join me on my many adventures in cooking, gardening, parenting, vacations, and whatever else is on my heart to share. I am no expert but my goal is to simply share the things I’ve learned and the things I love.
If you are wondering where the name came (from my perspective): milk is representative of mother, giver of life, free-flowing, abundance, and love…mahogany is representative of strength, protector, fortitude, and its color is reddish-brown (like me :)). In many ways, the name represents the qualities of the many women I know and love.
A little about me
I am married (16 years and counting) with four amazing kids (three boys and most recently had THE sweetest baby girl). They ground, inspire, and humble me in all the right ways. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas and the first in my family to venture outside of the state. Right now I reside in New Jersey, the beautiful garden state. Who would have thought!?! Not me! I never imagined that I would leave the great state of Texas but it turned out to be the best decision for my family and I. But please know, I am a true southern girl at heart and my unabashed love for food comes from my Texas roots.
While this blog is not about my professional life, it is important for me to share that I work in higher education and feel so blessed to have a job that I love and do work that is meaningful in the lives of others. I was raised in a single parent home by my amazing mother, and I am the first in my family to go to college and receive a PhD. It has not been an easy road getting here as there was no road map, but the journey has cultivated me into the woman I am today. For the most part, I am a ‘boss’ at work and at home. Balancing is not always easy but I wouldn’t trade this crazy life for anything. Thanks for joining me on this adventure of my love of food, friends, and family! Let’s go!
Good vibes only!
